Chess

Jarum and I were shopping at Target not too long ago and decided to by a cheapie $5.00 chess set on a whim. We've been playing it every night for the last three weeks. I can't believe how much fun we have playing chess. He's had a lot more practice playing, but I have beat him twice in the last few days! WOOT! It's funny, but he's dead scared of my Queen. I'm dead scared of every one of his pieces. LOL. My Queen is my strength. I protect her as much as my King. But whenever I lose her I know I'm in deep stuff.

Anyway.

It's been so much fun playing this game together. Plus it's so much fun watching the kids watching us play. Whenever one of us captures an opponent's piece the kids play their own "chess game" which pretty much consists of knocking the other players over. Jacob has a real grasp for the game now. Jarum has taught him the basics and has even played a few games with his Dad. Perhaps we'll have a little Bobby Fischer. Then again, maybe not.

P.S. Jacob beat me in our first ever game of chess. I didn't let him win. Just goes to show that I should probably not take for granted his youngness and pay a bit more attention to what I'm doing...

First Day of School

ETA: Well, the kids have just got home from school. I missed them getting off of the bus because I had fallen asleep with Matt, but oh well! They both came bounding in with much enthusiasm about their first days. Kaylee was especially excited because she had pizza for lunch!. How can life get any better than that? She also took a nap, played in the play house, saw her teacher's new baby (the baby is two weeks older than Josh) and got to ride the bus again!

Jacob had an enjoyable day, as well. One classmate from last year is in his class again this year. Jacob already has homework, but as it is a math review it is "easy." He's even now reading for his daily 20 minutes so that he can run over to next door and play. I love incentives!

I'm glad that they had such a good day. Matt, Josh and I had a great day as well. I think we can all get used to this school thing!
---------------------------------------------------------------

Today is the first day of school for Jacob (2nd Grade) and Kaylee (PreK). Everyone in the house has been excited for the last week, but I don't think anybody could have been more excited than the Mom! LOL! Although Kaylee did have a hard time getting to sleep last night. Grrrr.... :D I think she was just so excited about riding the bus with Jacob. I mean, who can blame her? Buses are cool!

Matthew wanted in on the action, so there you go. X)

Awwww precious! It was so fun watching them climb onto the bus.

I'm thrilled that I now get some quiet time during the day but I still can't help but wait for the kids to get home to tell me about their days! I was able to meet both of their teachers last Friday and I think that the kids are very lucky to have the teachers they have. I'm just grateful that the kids have this opportunity to go to school and learn all sorts of wonderful things but I'm even more grateful that I don't have to drive them there and pick them up! :D Have I mentioned how much I love busses?

Anyway, that's all for now. I'll update this evening once they get home.
